The third and last tournament day of the €720+80 Mega Poker Series Dublin 2015 Main Event at the Clayton Airport hotel in the Irish hotbed of poker saw nine players out of 70 entries remaining to the tables. Fintan Gavin was the shortest stack, however the popular Irishman and EPT5 Barcelona Main Event runner-up emerged victorious after about 10 hours to claim the title on home soil as well as €15,600 for his efforts.
David O’Kelly was leading the field and Nabil Cardoso was in second place, however the Spaniard saw two short stacks double up through him and Cardoso quickly dwindled towards the bottom counts. Notably, it was Gavin who doubled in the very first hand thanks to an open-ended straight draw that turned into a runner runner flush and the Irishman never looked back from there. The fight for the official eight-handed final table also witnessed double ups for Paul Turek and David Lappin before Diego Benitez ran with into the of Lappin to finish in ninth place.
Cardoso had to settle for eighth place after his had a kicker problem against the of Lappin before local fan favorite Aidan O’Reilly was sent to the rail in seventh place. An entire level without elimination had passed and “Aido” doubled, but the Irishman then picked the wrong timing to shove with and failed to improve against Gavin’s pocket jacks. Only a few minutes later, Francisco Hernandez also fell victim to the hot run of Gavin and got it in preflop with sixes versus eights to see both players hit their set on the flop.
Start-of-the-day chip leader O’Kelly endured a difficult day at the poker table and his stack dwindled all the way down to two big blinds. The very next hand back from the dinner break in level 23, he shoved with and Lappin called blind out of the big blind to find and turn the nut straight. Down to four players Lappin himself was the second biggest stack but lost quite some chips to open-shove twice for about one million in chips. The second time he got called by Gavin and the latter won the flip with against the to send Lappin to the rail in fourth place.
Paul Turek won his ticket to the Main Event in a Live Satellite and grinded with a short stack for almost two days before eventually bowing out in third place. The Austrian got it in ahead with the , however Andrew Leathem’s found a king on the turn and that reduced the action to the final heads-up showdown. Gavin started with a more than four-to-one lead and it took just half an hour to determine the winner with Leathem three-bet shoving into the of the Irishman.
