The second tournament day of the €720+80 Mega Poker Series Dublin Main Event at the Clayton Airport Hotel saw 40 survivors returning to the tables and players still had the opportunity to late-register or re-enter before the first card was dealt. Seven of them took advantage of this very option and thus the field size increased to 70 entries with the top eight spots locked for a share of the prize pool.
Almost 10 full 60-minute levels later at 2:00am local time, there were only nine players remaining and their second attempt of securing a bubble deal was fruitful to award €1,000 to the ninth-place finisher. Day 2 chip leader Francisco “Kikuxo” Fernandez will be among those to return tomorrow at 14:00 local time with 08:36 left in level 18 at blinds 8,000 / 16,000 with a running ante of 2,000 and the action will be streamed live on the internet.
Among those to register late were for example Daniel Chutrov, Dara “Doke” O’Kearney, Balasz Ujvari and Andrew Leathem, though only the Brit turned that investment into some profit. The action started fast and furious straight away and 21 players were sent to the rail in the first two hours. A huge surprise was the exit of Aristotelis Tavris and the MPS Madrid 2014 and Season 4 leader board champion fell victim to a three-way all in with two pair against two sets. Aaron Manley was running hotter than chili sauce and also took a lot of chips from Andy Black before the Irish poker icon lost a flip to Alvaro Tarrazon.
MPN Dublin champion Daniel Tighe showed up one hour late and fell in the second level of play, other notables such as Poker Royale boss Peter Hajszan and William Hill qualifier Sviatoslav Fomichev were also gone before the first break. Sascha Ranzinger’s set got cracked by the gutshot of Aidan “Aido” O’Reilly that became a runner runner flush and the German soon after ran with into pocket aces. Mario Eder and the aforementioned Manley, who were in the spotlight for some time, both exited before the money as well.
MPS serial qualifier Jacek Pustula as well as Doke O’Kearney, Iris Hagen, Daniel Burkart and Jari Hurri all fell short of the unofficial final table and the Finn later turned into the bubble boy with his 10th place finish once the deal at the end of Day 2 was agreed to. When the last nine players were merged to one table, David O’Kelly was the shortest stack with just seven big blinds but somehow managed to double up twice within 15 minutes and was back in the game. O’Kelly then scored another huge double with top set against the gutshot and flush draw of Nabil Cardoso, the Spaniard turned a set but the river paired the board to make O’Kelly a chip millionaire.
The Irishman held onto the lead and was the only player to bag up more than a million in chips with 1,270,000. Cardoso follows in second place with 979,000 followed by Andrew Leatham on 938,000. David Lappin (525,000) as well as Fernandez (470,000) are in the middle of the pack while Fintan Gavin is the bottom stack on 287,000.
Other Side Events also took place: The €50+10 Midnight Hyper Turbo got 17 runners and is still active while Day 1a of the €350 RedBet Live Main Event attracted a field of 39 entrants with 18 of them bagging up chips. There will be two more starting days for the third and final highlight of the festival schedule and players can re-enter once in each flight. In case they bag up chips more than once, the biggest stack will be carried over into Day 2 on Sunday.
