Antonio Guimaraens Leads Last 8 Into Final Day of 2015 MPS Barcelona

The penultimate day of the Mega Poker Series festival at the Casino Barcelona saw 55 players return to the tables for Day 3 of the €720+80 Main Event. Everyone was guaranteed at least €1,600 for their efforts already as the bubble had burst the previous night. As expected the action was fast and furious right from the start with 20 players being sent to the rail until the first break.

However, it still took almost eight full 75-minute levels to determine the eight finalists and local hero Antonio Guimaraens claimed the overnight lead with 7,140,000 ahead of Vladimir Troyanovskiy (6,250,000) and Denis Vladimirov (4,515,000). Josep Maria Galindo Lopez (4,315,000), Day 1a chip leader Sviatoslav Shturyn (3,900,000), Jean-Francois Regis (3,340,000), Ba Minh Pham (3,265,000) and Guillem Cusco Bach (2,470,000) complete the final table line-up.

With the button in seat two for the first hand of the day, Ferran Corominas Telechea was unfortunate enough to be forced all in for his last big blind right away and Paco “El Tren” Torres also bowed out from the very same spot as well. Day 1b chip leader Joao “Jay” Santos had to settle for a min-cash too after his pocket aces got cracked by the pocket queens of Shturyn in the first hand.

Notables such as Igor Merda and online qualifier Sebastian Sommer made it into the second payout step whereas Laura Gallardo made it into the third tier. By then, Galindo Lopez had doubled up at least three times and MPS Wiener Neustadt third-place finisher Sascha Ranzinger, Daniel Burkart and Wolfgang Siepmann were all eliminated shy of the last three tables over on the feature table for a payday of €2,100 each.

The hot run of Regis began with four tables left as the Frenchman kept sending short stacks to the rail in consequent manner and he also took care of Jean Marc Rigaill and William Koo on the feature to enter the dinner break with 14 left as chip leader. Back from dinner, Isabel Baltazar, Mikael Juhani Koistinen and Alain Roy bowed out within 15 minutes and the field was suddenly reduced to 11. Guimaraens then scored a big double through Regis and also reduced 2015 MPS Vienna champion Andelo Bozic from a big to a short stack as well after flopping a set of eights.

Adan Soler Fernandez was eliminated on the outer table and then Bozic got hit by a set for the third time to reduce the field to its last nine hopefuls. It was decided to continue playing one more level or until another player busts. Regis doubled up and an accidental call of Angel Funes Rios set the final eight after the Spaniard failed to win a coin flip.

Action resumes at 16:00 with 11:17 minutes left in level 26 at blinds of 50,000-100,000 and a running ante of 10,000. Five different nationalities will be represented and all remaining participants have €7,000 locked up whereas the winner is looking forward to a payday of €60,000.
