In about one hour from now at 14:00 local time, the third and penultimate day of the €800 Mega Poker Series Malta Main Event is kicking off at the Casino Portomaso in the hotbed of St. Julians. The field of 262 entries has been whittled down to 35 and only the first 31 spots will get paid at least €1,600. The money bubble will approach quickly, however the tournament average is still around 40 big blinds upon return with blinds at 8,000-16,000 and a running ante of 2,000 for level 18. There will also be a feature table with live stream on a security delay on 30 minutes and from today on until the end of the tournament, the levels last 75 minutes each.
Leading the hopefuls at the top of the chip count is World Series of Poker bracelet winner Michael Gathy from Belgium with 1,539,000 in chips followed by Day 1b chip leader Salvatore Ritrovato (1,232,000) and Mats Karlsson (1,164,000). Day 1a chip leader Daniel Jarosch is among the six over-night chip millionaires on 1,030,000 whereas MPS Season 3 leader board winner and Madrid 2014 champion Aristotelis Tavris (652,000) is in the middle of the pack.
Four William Hill Poker online qualifiers remain: Dennis Frankenberger (880,000), Tomasz Olszewski (863,000), Natascha Siepmann (859,000) and Akser Osak (233,000). Other notables to watch out for include Team Poker Royale qualifier Markus Ganglbauer (446,000), Tillmann Raschke (398,000), Elena Stover (370,000) and Malta’s “poker mama” Jackie Cachia (240,000).
As far as the Side Events are concerned, Day 2 of the €330 NLHE Freezeout restarts at 15:00 local time with 32 out of 78 players remaining and will continue until a winner is crowned. At 16:00 there is a €45+5 Satellite with single re-entry for the €440 NLHE Freezeout and the latter gets underway at 19:00. All participants receive 40,000 in chips and levels of 30 minutes, the two-day event will continue Sunday afternoon.
